Respect

Respect: "to hold in esteem or honor" or  "to show regard or consideration for"

Awhile back I was reading one my fave blogs & she referenced this post. (whether you're married or not read his post)
Like every other woman on the planet my first thought was HUH?! to the title - "Your Husband Doesn't Have to Earn Your Respect." Uhhhh Q ME yes He does! - My second thought.
I was raised in a Christian home. I am a Christian now. Growing up I always heard the man is the head of the household. He's the leader and the wife submits to him. I don't know about y'all but I don't swallow that word "submit" very well. It bugs me. Because I'm a WOMAN! A strong willed, bossy (my husband is shaking his head yes right now haha), opinionated WOMAN! Those characteristics do not necessarily have to be a bad thing if used in the right way. When you start running over your husband because you think you're "the boss" then there is a problem. I would like to think I have come a long way in the last year & couple months of our marriage. I had to learn the hard way you can't talk down to your husband to get what you want. Some men just roll over an take it. Which is wrong on their part also. The Bible talks about respecting your spouse & the man being the head of the household in Ephesians 5:21-33.

This has been a challenge for me. & I know this is a challenge for my generation especially. Its all about independent women, "I don't need a man!", "Ain't no man gonna walk all over me!". You can't bring that superior attitude into your marriage. Of course I am all for men respecting women. But you gotta give respect to get it also.

"It is a fatal problem, because the one thing that is consistently withheld from men and husbands — respect — is the one thing we need the most.Yes, need. We need respect, and that need is so deeply ingrained that a marriage cannot possibly survive if the man is deprived of it. Often, people will say that a husband should only be respected if he “earns” it. This attitude is precisely the problem. A wife ought to respect her husband because he is her husband, just as he ought to love and honor her because she is his wife. Your husband might “deserve” it when you mock him, berate him, belittle him, and nag him, but you don’t marry someone in order to give them what they deserve. In marriage, you give them what you’ve promised them, even when they aren’t holding up their end of the bargain." - Matt Walsh

OUCH! "you give them what you've promised them, even when they aren't holding up their end of the bargain" That doesn't sit well. But its the truth. You give your spouse the love & respect you promised them even when its not at all what you're feeling at that moment.

The hubs & I were out to eat for lunch the other day when I noticed he was looking out the window. I asked him what he was looking at. And he said "poor guy, its obvious his wife runs the roost". The guy did look pretty "downtrodden" if you will.  Pretty much he looked like he was miserable. I can't say for sure what their situation was. But thats a pretty spot on example of what a disrespect can do to a marriage. Men thrive on respect. They need it to survive. This is how they're made.

"12. Respect him. When you do find a keeper, respect him. Make sure he knows how awesome and manly and amazing he is. Say it to his face and in front of his friends. Never criticize him, especially not in front of other people. Make him feel capable -- because he is. Let him know how happy he makes you. For men, there's nothing more life-giving than respect." -Therese Schwenkler

I am not perfect at respecting my husband by any means. I still have a long way to go in marriage in general.
But I want to respect my husband. I want him to be the head of the household and take the lead. God did not make the woman to be the leader. But he didn't make women to be walked all over either. There has to be a happy medium. Give your husband love & respect & you will get the same in return.

I usually steer clear of controversial topics like this but hey its my blog. If you don't like it boo hoo. :)

20 Questions

TGIF folks! I thought it would be fun to do a little questionnaire post like this one I saw on Cassie's blog. Just giving you a little more info about myself!

What is your road trip essential snack?
I would have to say some kind of sweet. Candy, little debbies, something like that. I have a big sweet tooth!

You've been handed two free round-trip tickets...who are you taking and where are you going?
That would be awesome! I would have to take my hubs, my best friend Han or my Ma. If it was my Hubs maybe somewhere like Alaska cause I know he would love to go there. Or somewhere tropical cause we are salt water lovers! (he fishes, I tan. Perfect.) With Han or my Ma (or both would be better) I would have to say NYC. We've been on an NYC trip before together and it was a blast! Or somewhere tropical also with them. Sunshine, relaxing & of course shopping.

What was your high school jam?
Oh wow... I had so many. I was into punk style music my 9th and 10th grade year. (yes I went through the whole Avril Lavigne stage) 11th and 12th I don't even know what I liked. Probably a little bit of everything. Taylor Swift before she got super annoying.

Would you rather have a perfect bum or a flawless face?
Face fo sho! I've always had problems with my skin. It would be heaven to not have to deal with that.

What shows are you ashamed to admit are on your DVR?
No shame in my game! I always record the Kardashians. Yes yes I know everyone hates them blah blah blah! I love Khloe shes my fave. Shes more real and down to earth that others. And I love her style!

Whats your ringtone?
The "Cups" song by Anna Kendrick.

How old were you when you had your first kiss?
I think I was 15 or 16? Idk. I can't even remember it. That shows how great it was I guess lol.

Do you have siblings? Where are you in the birth order?
Yes a younger brother hes 17. I am 25. I was an only child until he came along and ruined everything!!! lol. J/k I love my little brother. Most of the time ;)

What physical quirk were you born with?
Well I am klutzy as they come. I trip over air everyday of my life. Its exhausting I tell ya!

1993 Toyota Camry! I think my best friend Bri and I named it Trigger. We had the same car in high school. We had some good times in those cars!

Uhhh how could I choose!? Probably some type of Italian food. I love pasta! & cupcakes!

Have you ever been hospitalized & if so what for?
Yes, when I was a teenager on a church trip I ended up in the hospital in Orlando for a UTI and Kidney infection. I do not remember being in the hospital very well because I was so doped up! I was actin a fool screaming and crying and such. My poor parents.

How tall are you? Do you wish you were taller, shorter...or are you just right?
I am like 5'5 or 5'6. My husband says I am shorter than that. Which to him I probably do because hes a whopping 6'4. I'm good with my height!

Do you prefer to DIY or hire it out?
I like small DIY projects. Because even the small ones I feel like I get in over my head! I am not patient at all so I usually end up rushing through the end of it. I would rather hire it out!

How frequently do you wash your hair? Do you have any hair secrets or tricks?
Ha! Ummm...... sometimes twice a week, 3 if your lucky. That is my secret! I hardly ever wash it or use a straightener or blow dryer on it during the week so it stays pretty healthy because of that. I honestly only really fix my hair on the weekends. I could care less what my hair looks like at work. Pony tail and I'm good.

Will you leave the house without makeup?
Absolutely not! Y'all for real. I look scarey without make up. I think I have left my house with just some powder on or something to go tan but thats about it.

25 & Disney

February 13th was my 25th bday. 25..... it sounds so weird! I feel too young to be this old. (not that I'm really old but ya know what I mean) I had a pretty awesome bday though. My hubs had school the night of my birthday so he surprised me and took me out to dinner the night before to Mojos. It is my absolute favorite place to eat BBQ. If you're in the Jacksonville area you need to go there asap! Obviously I am not hard to please. Give this girl some good BBQ & sweet tea & shes happy. :)

The day of my bday I had to work. BOO! Who works on their birthday?! It should be a law you get your birthday off. Just sayin'. The night of my bday my bestie Hannah took me out to dinner at Chilis. We ate way too much, had some dessert & some much needed girl time. I love our girls nights! There is always constant laughing! Girl talk & laughter is good for the soul.

A little birthday collage my Ma created & posted to FB. The bottom right pic is my first trip to Disney in 1993, 4 years old :)

My present to myself, or my husbands present to me you could say was Disney tickets! I haven't been to Disney since my 21st bday. & before then since I was probably 10 or 11 years old. My Ma also got tickets for her bday last year in July. So she was way over due to take this trip! The first day we did the Magic Kingdom park. If you're not a fan of children do not go there... I repeat.. DO NOT GO TO MAGIC KINGDOM. Little kiddies running around everywhere! But thats what Disney is for :) The 2nd day we went to the Hollywood Studios park. This more of an adult park. They have a couple of kiddie rides too though. & the best Churros ever! Get you one!

We were pretty excited about these little "wallets" we found at the gift shop by our hotel. Perfect for carrying your ticket, money etc.

Riding the Ferry over to Disney

You can't do Disney without the ears!

On the tram from the parking lot.
One of the 3D musical shows we saw. You know those really annoying jolly people who sing & dance along? Yeh. That was us :)

It rained a little on us at the Magic Kingdom ,but it wasn't spoiling our Disney trip! FYI buy your ponchos outside of Disney. WAY too expensive inside the park.
Holy dessert! Disney is just amazing at everything!

Recreating my childhood :) #Disneykid4life

The pretty castle at night <3 br="">

The Tower of Terror ride at Hollywood Studios. If you are looking for a thrill. This is your ride! My Ma was not a fan...

Disney is amazing! I don't know how they come up with some of the things they do! I can't wait to go back. Hopefully sooner than later!

Do you love Disney like I do? Any Disney tips you would like to share?

A Surprise Party

A couple of weekends ago my Ma, me & my cousin Tiff (who also planned my wedding, shes awesome!) had a surprise party for Daddys 50th birthday. He was not very excited about turning 50. I have no idea why because hes healthy & does not look 50 at all. He works his butt off & probably gets more exercise doing his job than I get in a month! My Daddy is the nicest, goofiest, genuine person you will ever meet. He is such a people person, he will talk to anyone. It doesn't matter who you are. He has more compassion for people than I have ever seen in anyone else in my life. He loves kids. So much that he drives the van at my parents church to pick up kids whose parents won't or can't bring them to church. He was ready for me & my hubs to have a kid like yesterday. He told me awhile back that I couldn't come back over unless I brought grandchildren with me. Ha! Sorry Daddy, you're gonna have to wait. :)

These are the centerpieces we used for the party. The first one is suppose to resemble my Dads old truck & all the junk in the back of it. He goes "junkin". Its his thing. You need a bike or an exercise machine? Ask my Dad. He will find you one! The little golf cart resembles what my parents golf cart looks like every Saturday. My Dad drives around their neighborhood and picks up trash off the side of the road. Hes a saint I tell ya. The yellow car is like the Duster car he had in high school. Except his was white. He loved it! Last is the truck I did my last minutes crafty magic on. It was a Wal Mart truck that I spray painted and put the stickers on to resemble where my Dad works. He's been a delivery truck driver since as long as I can remember. & he loves his job. & he's pretty awesome at it too.
Also we had the party at my Dads my favorite place to eat in our small town. Its a little barbeque joint thats been around for as long as I can remember. My Dad seriously eats there every weekend. In fact he ate there Friday night before the party and for lunch Saturday. The party was that Saturday night. I'd say he got plenty of barbeque that weekend. LOL.

Of course no 50th birthday party is complete with out some pictures from back in the day! You can't see it very well, but the picture in the back middle is my parents at their high school prom. They've been together since they were like 14 years old. Still going strong. :)

The cake. Complete with little tools, tape measure & nails decor. My Daddys favorite things. :)

The best part was probably watching him open all his gifts. Obviously he has a thing for t-shirts!

& can't forget the party planners! Me & Tiff :)

Junkin', dirt, trucks & tools. Loving Jesus & showing people the love of Jesus. Thats my Daddy. :)
